Jessie Mae is the founder, owner, and lead therapist at both Mariposa Grief Counseling and Mariposa Eating Recovery. A Licensed Professional Counselor and Certified Eating Disorder Specialist, Jessie brings nearly two decades of clinical experience and a deep passion for supporting individuals through some of life’s most challenging experiences.
She earned her Bachelor’s degree in Psychology (2003) and her Master’s degree in Counseling (2005), both from the University of Texas at San Antonio. Since beginning her work as a therapist in 2006, Jessie has dedicated her career to the treatment of eating disorders and the many complex emotional issues that often accompany them—including grief and loss.
In 2013, she launched her private practice focused on outpatient eating disorder treatment. Recognizing the growing need for specialized care, she expanded her practice into a group setting in 2020, founding Mariposa Eating Recovery. Her approach to therapy is rooted in compassion, authenticity, and clinical excellence.
A long-held dream, inspired during her early years in college, was to one day open a practice dedicated to grief and bereavement support. In 2025, that vision came to life with the launch of Mariposa Grief Counseling, a sister practice providing expert, heart-centered care to those navigating the complexities of loss.
Through her leadership, Jessie continues to cultivate healing spaces where clients feel seen, supported, and empowered on their path toward recovery and renewal.

I consider being a counselor my highest calling and I simply love what I do. I aim to create a safe and inviting environment for my clients to be able to open up and share their worlds with me. I work with all ages, both individuals and couples, guiding them toward healing, clarity, and greater meaning in their lives. I am always inspired by the bravery and courage of my clients as they work to heal their broken pieces.
I believe in working from a holistic perspective to create progress toward a whole and integrated life. I believe that every person has within themselves the answers to their struggles and I feel honored to get to be the one walking along side my clients on their journeys to discovering these answers.
My passion is to help people to reach their goals in a way that is most meaningful to them. I rely on several counseling techniques to help my clients, including cognitive behavioral therapy, schema therapy, EMDR & trauma focused cbt, as the amalgam that defines my counseling approach. In addition, several losses in my own life have inspired me to work with those struggling through loss with grief therapy, which is another journey very close to my heart.
I will be honored and humbled to be able to work with you as your counselor. And I am looking forward to the things we will uncover and figure out along the way. As therapist and writer, David Richo, Ph D said, “Our wounds are often the openings into the best and most beautiful parts of us.”
